While Ryder is trying to convince Shay that he’s not to young for him they become friends which leads to more. The more was so satisfying! Not only is this a wonderful story it contains a great mystery that had me guessing until the end. Love a great romance? Love a good mystery? This is a book for you. The text exchanges were cute but there was no romance, few personal exchanges and little development until late in the story. The groundwork for this book was laid in earlier books. You don’t have to read them first but it will enhance your enjoyment of this book if you do. Keaton writes a good suspense book. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Vols77 -- Fantastic Read : This suspenseful and romantic book had me hooked on page one. This book has suspense, danger, tension, and romance. I love an age gap book and love when the two characters could not be more different, but you know they are destined to be together. Such is the case with Shay and Ryder. Ryder is sassy and sunshine and constantly flirting and declaring his attraction to Shay, whereas Shay is the shade to his sun, grumpy and fighting any attraction he has to Ryder. I laughed out loud many times at Ryder persistence to capture Shay’s love and attention. The two soon have to investigate a case together and that is when the real fun begins. It is a nice balance of romance and suspense, and I have to admit I usually am good at predicting where a book is headed, but this one kept me on my toes and went directions I did not predict. I will admit I loved Shay from earlier book and this can easily be read as a standalone but i think is more powerful if you read both books. Do not want to say too much to spoil it, I would simply just encourage you to read it, I know you will be hooked. I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Ineedmorebooks -- Mystery, suspense, and an age gap romance : Shay gets his own book! Shay and Ryder met a year ago and Ryder quickly developed feelings for Shay. His advances towards Shay have been brushed aside by Shay as he feels he is too old for Ryder. Through teasing text messages and as many short visits to Piedras as he can make, don't trust couriers, Ryder has kept the connection alive. To help Shay help a friend's nephew Ryder tags along and they get to spend several days together. As the mystery evolves with many twists and unexpected turns their relationship grows as Shay realizes that Ryder may be younger but he is also exactly what Shay needs. I really enjoyed the appearances of so many past characters- Adam Klay, Agent Wier, Niall and Mat and Claribel. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys MM suspense and an age gap romance. It was great finally learning more about him and I loved Ryder for him. He needed to loosen up a bit and for Ryder to prove to Shay that he was worthy of being loved. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Edga -- Slow burn action story : I found the very beginning a bit slow, but decided to persevere after reading the good reviews. Ryder and Shay are well written, and complement one another so well. Ryder's a real character, witty and engaging, with a real c'est la vie attitude, he's definitely my favourite. On the other hand, I found Shay's character a little tiresome at times, and just wanted to give him a good shake on occasion. Anyhoo, the book eventually gets going, and I found myself being drawn into the plot, keen to find out what would happen! The romance and intrigue were perfectly balanced, and well written. Niall’s co-worker Ryder also works for WCF and once he spotted Shay he’s determined to have him in his life. Young girls are disappearing and when the Fire Chiefs nephew Brennan’s girlfriend goes missing too Shay is asked to defend Brennan. He and Ryder open a can of worms when they start trying to work out what’s going on. Throughly enjoyed this book ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 31, 2021 )
